Crime incidents drop on Valentine s Day
CEBU, Philippines — The Police Regional Office (PRO) -7 reported a significant drop in crime incidents across Central Visayas on Valentine s Day, February 14, 2025, marking an 86.67 percent reduction compared to the previous year.
According to PRO-7, only two crime incidents were recorded this year, a sharp decline from the 15 cases noted on Valentine s Day in 2024. This impressive decrease is attributed to the region s enhanced peace and order operational formula, which includes increased police presence, rapid response times, and targeted counteractions against drug groups, criminal gangs, and private armed groups.
Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan, PRO-7 regional director, credited the community s cooperation and trust as vital components of this positive development.
We understand the importance of feeling safe in our community, and we are deeply committed to providing that assurance. Our police force is here to serve and protect, and together, we will continue to work toward a safer Central Visayas, said Maranan.
The strategic approach, which emphasized proactive security measures and continuous monitoring, contributed significantly to the decrease in reported crimes.
Meanwhile, in line with the spirit of Valentine s Day, PRO-7 launched the Gasa sa Gugma (Gift of Love) initiative to support police personnel facing health challenges.
The program provided essential assistance and thoughtful gifts to 14 officers battling chronic illnesses, underscoring the organization s commitment to the well-being of its members.
Led by Maranan and his wife, Ebeneza, alongside key members of the Command Group and support staff, the event aimed to deliver emotional support and vital resources to affected personnel, highlighting solidarity with officers and their families.
The initiative aligns with the Philippine National Police s mission of fostering empathy and communal support within the force. It aims to provide not only financial assistance but also to nurture a deeper sense of belonging and camaraderie among the officers.
During the event, at least 14 personnel comprising members from various City Police Offices and 12 from Provincial Police Offices benefitted from generous donations, which included sacks of rice, essential grocery items, and personalized gifts, lifting the spirits of those in attendance.
In his message, Maranan reminded his personnel facing health issues that they are not alone in their recovery journey.
Health is wealth. Carry courage in your heart, and you will find your strength through faith and steadfast prayer. With your family and us by your side, we are committed to facing these challenges together, he expressed.
Maranan emphasized that the initiative reinforces PRO-7 s commitment to its members, ensuring that every officer feels valued and supported, especially during life s challenging moments.
The event not only celebrated the spirit of love and gratitude but also strengthened camaraderie within the PNP community. FPL (CEBU NEWS)
