CEBU, Philippines — A new community college building in Madridejos campus in Bantayan Island, Cebu is set to rise, adding an educational infrastructure in town.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia led the capsule laying and groundbreaking of the school edifice in Barangay Bunakan on Feb. 6.

The three-storey building with six classrooms, measuring 56 square meter area each, will be constructed in a 313.74 square-meter area.

The budget for the school building is P13.1 million, which is expected to be completed within 240 days.

The Capitol, through its news arm Sugbo News, said the structure aims to provide a space for conducive learning.

With the new school building, Garcia also urged the students to finish their studies.

Kinahanglan molampos gyud mo, kay kamo usab, kay kamo man ang paglaom sa inyong guinikanan, sa inyong pamilya,  Garcia told the students.

The governor was accompanied by Madridejos Mayor Romeo Villaceran, Vice Mayor Vincent Villacrusis, Ako Bisaya Second Nominee Carissa Garcia, Board Member Glenn Soco, and Bureau of Customs Port of Cebu District Collector Atty. Geoffrey De Vera IV during the ceremony.

Meanwhile, another structure in the town of Madridejos is also set to rise.

Garcia also led the groundbreaking of a tourism infrastructure called "Hapitanan sa Sugbo."

The structure is worth P6.5 million, which is expected to provide tourists with modern amenities, like air-conditioned lounge areas, charging stations, a tourist information center, and various food and retail outlets.

There will also be a mini-food court that would offer coffee and local delicacies and dishes, which can be enjoyed by the visitors. -   JG (CEBU NEWS)
