CEBU, Philippines — To deter criminal activities in the mountainous barangays of Danao City and to allay the fears of the residents of the locality about reports of the presence of a cult, a police community precinct (PCP) in Barangay Lawaan was installed.
Police Regional Office-7 Director Debold Sinas said the police community precinct will cater to the complaints of the residents and to suppress criminalities.
“Actually naay detachment ug police precinct, kay katong police precinct didto mao toy lugar sa mga Bueno brothers,” he said.
The Bueno brothers, who are allegedly members of a cult, were accused of killing Trinidad Batucan, a 60-year-old farmer, last January 13, 2019 in Agutayan, Barangay Lawaan.
Aside from killing him, Batucan was also skinned.
Junry and Jovie Bueno were killed during the operation, while Jonas Bueno evaded arrest. He was later on arrested in Davao City last March 15.
Sinas said the barangay captain of Lawaan has requested to have a police community precinct.
“So magbutang ta didto ug walo ka tawo. Kaning PCP nato will serve as a mini-police station nga magresponde, mag-blotter. Tapos ang areas covered nila is 14 barangays didto para dili na kinahanglan munaog sa Poblacion para mo-report sa incident,” he said.
Sinas added the police will be patrolling those barangays. Also, they will be coordinating with the army units there.
Danao City Police Station Chief Maribelle Getigan made an assessment before the installation of PCP in Barangay Lawaan and found there is a need to install one.
Sinas encouraged other major cities to observe what Getigan did, and maybe to replicate, so the police will not only concentrate in one place.
Cult
Sinas said it is under verification if the Bueno brothers had a group.
Cebu Provincial Police Office Director Manuel Javier Abrugena had earlier said they are still verifying the information that there was an alleged cult in Danao, where a victim will be skinned and the cult members will eat the victim’s flesh. — GAN (FREEMAN)
