CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Director Joel Doria said that the shooting incident involving two sibling-businessmen along Osmeña Boulevard last Thursday afternoon was considered closed, as the brother of the victim who was also the suspect surrendered to the police.
“Kagabi nag-surrender ang suspect kasama ang lawyer niya at pina-process. After that, i-file na natin ang kaso considered solve na din ito. Case closed na kasi ipa-file na din natin ang kaso,” said Doria.
Businessman Chris Gerald Gopuco, 40, was shot dead by his older brother, Roy Vincent Jr., 44.
The brothers business partners in their establishment in the area.
In the initial investigation conducted by the operatives of Homicide section of the CCPO disclosed that the suspect wanted to have a conversation with his younger brother. But their employees just heard three consecutive gun bursts and found the victim bathed in his own blood.
The victim sustained three gunshot wounds in his back and head, which resulted to his instantaneous death.
Roy Vincent reportedly fled away from the area using his silver Honda Civic.
Homicide section chief, Inspector Lilibeth Arche, said that they’ve been conducting hot-pursuit operation prior to the suspect’s voluntary surrender in their office around 7:30 p.m. last Thursday.
“Tulo ka location ang among giadto, ang iyang balay sa Mandaue, sa Winland Tower ug sa Doña Rita but pulos negative,” said Arche.
She said that the victim and the suspect had an argument prior to the incident after the victim found out that the suspect used a big amount of money in their family business without their knowledge.
“Na-discover lately daw sa victim nga dako-dako na ang nadispalko sa iyang igsuon sa iyang maguwang,” Arche added.
Doria, on the other hand, said that the suspect’s lawyer, Joan Largo, called the police and manifested the surrender of his client. A murder complaint was already prepared against the suspect and is expected to be filed on Monday. — GAN (FREEMAN)
