CEBU, Philippines - As part of its campaign to deter crimes, Carcar City will set up its own Special Weapons and Tactics team next month.
“By next month, 20 members of our PNP will start training. Mao ni sila mo-compose sa atong SWAT team,” said Mayor Nice Apura.
The move was the city’s answer to the call of the Cebu Provincial Police Office for every local government or at least district to have its own SWAT.
CPPO director Senior Superintendent Noel Gillamac encouraged LGUs to establish their own SWAT for advanced policing.
Gillamac made this call during the activation of Naga City’s 20-man SWAT unit last month, the first LGU to have such elite police force in the first district.
Apura said these 20 future SWAT members are police officers from Carcar City Police Station.
He said the city has already set aside funds for their training and soon for their state-of-the-art equipment.
“Dili taas ang crime rate nato diri but it does not mean nga kumpyansa na ta. That is why naa ta’y SWAT para mahadlok ang mga kriminal nga magbuhat og dautan sa atong syudad,” said Apura.
Apura said that in the coming months, the city will also install closed-circuit television cameras in key areas for security monitoring purposes.
He said the system is also set to catch traffic violators. (FREEMAN)
