2 students lost phones to robbers

CEBU, Philippines - Two university students lost their cellular phones in two separate robbery incidents inside public utility jeepneys in Cebu City on Saturday.

At around 4 p.m., a 17-year-old student was held up by two robbers, who forcibly took his cellular phone, inside a jeepney along General Maxilom Avenue.

Herben Rhoy Ranay, a first year college student and a resident of Barangay San Roque, immediately reported the incident to the Waterfront Police Station.

The victim boarded a PUJ bound for a mall at the reclamation area when, upon reaching Barangay Carreta, two unidentified men declared a holdup.

One of the men pointed a gun at Ranay while the other man forcibly took his cellular phone. The men then jumped off the vehicle and casually walked away.

Responding personnel of the Waterfront Police Station immediately conducted a follow-up operation but failed to arrest the robbers.

Several hours later, another university student was robbed by an unidentified armed man, who took her cellular phone inside a PUJ along Magallanes Street Saturday night.

Jane Agnes Legada, 17, of Barangay San Roque, lost her Samsung Galaxy Y to the robber armed with a bladed weapon.

Legada, a first year information technology student, said that she boarded a 04C PUJ on her way home with other two passengers seated in front of her.

She said a man immediately boarded and sat beside her. The man then secretly demanded for her cellular phone but she resisted.

“Nahibong na lang ang mga pasahero nga naglalis na mi kay nakig-ilog man jud ko sa akong cellphone. Nagkaguliyang na apil ang driver ug konduktor,” she said, adding that she only gave in when she saw the man was holding a bladed weapon.

The robber quickly jumped off the jeepney and ran towards the interior portion of Carbon Market.

A team from the Carbon Police Station headed by PO3 Antonio Tejero immediately conducted a follow-up operation but failed to arrest the robber. (FREEMAN)
