US-based tech giant’s Cebu expansion to create 500 jobs

CEBU, Philippines — U.S.-based tech care provider Asurion is ramping up its presence in the Philippines with plans to launch a new contact center in Cebu City by late 2025.

The expansion, recognized by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on June 5, is expected to generate at least 500 new jobs, further reinforcing the country’s position as a strategic hub for high-value global services.

The announcement was relayed by Asurion General Counsel Grant Mullins during discussions with officials from the DTI’s Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Washington, D.C., including Commercial Counselor Kenneth Yap and Minister and Consul Hans Siriban of the Philippine Embassy.

The Cebu site is slated to support the company’s expanding U.S. market, where Asurion provides smart device insurance, technical support, and repair services to more than 100 million customers—approximately one in three U.S. households.

The move builds on Asurion’s 16-year footprint in the Philippines, where it already operates major facilities in Metro Manila, Clark, Laguna, and Iloilo. These centers perform a range of core functions including software development, mobile phone remanufacturing, and customer support, collectively employing thousands of Filipino professionals.

“There is a welcoming environment for investors, especially with the support of the Marcos administration,” Mullins said, noting the company’s successful 2024 expansion of its call center operations in the Clark Freeport Zone.

The Philippines remains Asurion’s only location outside the United States for mobile phone remanufacturing—a strategic designation highlighted by PTIC-WDC’s Yap.

Its facility in Laguna currently employs roughly 1,400 skilled technicians focused on iPhone repairs.

Since beginning local operations in 2009, Asurion has repaired and shipped over 10 million iPhones to the U.S. market.

With the addition of the Cebu facility, Asurion’s total headcount in the country is expected to rise to approximately 8,000 employees.

Founded in 1994 and headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, Asurion is the world’s largest tech care provider, offering device protection and support services for more than 300 million customers worldwide. The company maintains partnerships with leading global brands including Amazon, Samsung, and Verizon.

The DTI welcomed Asurion’s expansion as part of its broader strategy to attract technology-driven investments and generate high-value employment.

“This is a vote of confidence in the Philippines’ talent pool and our investment climate,” said Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual in a separate statement.

“We remain committed to strengthening our long-term economic partnerships with global industry leaders,” Pascual added.

The latest expansion signals growing investor confidence in the Philippines’ ability to support complex, tech-enabled operations, stressing its role as a preferred destination for digitally driven enterprises in Southeast Asia.
