Lady Cardinals swoop down on Lady Stags

MANILA, Philippines — Mapua displayed a slick attacking game as it smashed San Sebastian College, 25-16, 25-16, 25-21, yesterday to inch closer to the NCAA Season 100 women’s volleyball Final Four at the Filoil EcoOil Arena.
Freighanne Garcia and Raissa Janel Ricablanca were at the heart of that unrelenting onslaught, firing 21 and 14 points, respectively, as the Lady Cardinals nailed their fourth win in a row and 11th against five defeats.
“I’m grateful to the players for adjusting well. They themselves talked about what’s needed to be done,” said Mapua coach Clarence Esteban.
The win served as the calm before the storm as Mapua will face in its last two elimination-round assignments the league’s most feared teams – four-peat feat-seeking St. Benilde on Sunday and pacesetting Letran next week.
The Lady Stags dropped to 7-9.
Earlier, Jose Rizal U downed San Beda, 25-19, 25-22, 25-21, to improve to 2-14, the same record of the latter.
