MANILA, Philippines - Patience and determination paid off for Formula E Racing’s Larco Rafael Pesigan Cortez who survived the odds to emerge Round 4 KF Junior champion recently in the kickoff of the 2015 KF Karting Super Series at the Carmona Racetrack.
The feat made up for all the hard work the 12-year-old Don Bosco-Makati student who made do with an old kart. The victory not only spoiled Jacob Ang’s bid for a four-round sweep but also opened doors for Cortez as the latter’s most likely closest rival for the overall KF Juniors crown.
Throughout the two-day, four-round event, he provided the action that put pressure on the opposition. He finished third in Round 1 and ended seventh in the afternoon Round 2 in Saturday’s encounters.
The following day, his Round 3 campaign nearly ended in disappointment when he hit the foam after losing control at the turn.
Cortez quickly stood up unscathed and turned even more aggressive as he passed rivals in finishing second in Round 3.
In Round 4 Larco’s patience translated into a big surprise triumph as he immediately secured the front seat after engine problems forced Ang’s early exit.
