MANILA, Philippines - Gabriel Manotoc rattled off four birdies at the front but slowed down to finish with a one-under 71 to wrest the boys’ Class A lead while Chanelle Avaricio upstaged fancied Princess Superal with a 70 in the girls side in the Pancake House Junior World qualifying golf tournament at the Manila Southwoods’ Legends course in Carmona, Cavite yesterday.
Manotoc went on a birdie-birdie start then added two more on Nos. 6 and 9 for a 32 only to fumble at the back with bogeys, settling for a 71 and a one-stroke lead over Rupert Zaragosa, who birdied the last two holes to salvage a 72 in the centerpiece 15-17 years division.
Avaricio turned in an impressive two-under 70 that netted her a three-shot lead over top ICTSI bet Superal in the 72-hole qualifier backed by the Pancake House under the aegis of the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines.
The event is the third leg of the ICTSI-JGFP Summer Circuit also sponsored by Philippine Golf Foundation, Golf Depot, Sizzlin’ Pepper, Teriyaki Boy and Inquirer Golf.
In Class B (13-14 years), Wei Wei Gao forged a tie for the lead with Kristoffer Arevalo at 72 in the boys division while Pauline del Rosario joined ICTSI teammate Abby Arevalo at 75 in girls action.
