MANILA, Philippines - Host Philippines turned back a pesky Indonesian side as it escaped with a 1-0 victory to clinch third place in the Pony Baseball/Softball International’s 2010 Asia-Pacific Zone Pony Division Championships at the Sto. Niño grounds in Marikina City yesterday.
Juan Paolo Macasaet belted a two-base hit to send Francis Geismundo, who went on board on a single to left field, on top of the sixth inning to seal the win and a slot in the Pony World Series in Fullerton, United States as a representative of Southeast Asia.
Japan, meanwhile, avenged its embarrassing 2-22 loss to Chinese-Taipei in Sunday’s opener with a giant-size 1-0 win to top this event organized by Philippine Tot Baseball Foundation president Rodolfo “Boy” Tingzon Jr. and hosted by Marikina City headed by Mayor Del de Guzman.
The Japanese will thus represent Asia-Pacific in the World Series also in the US in this qualifier backed by Globe Business, 100 Plus and Summit Natural Drinking Water.
