Superal posts fifth subpar rounds in row, up by 23

Wolen Juan Superal made it five consecutive under-par rounds in a row and eight in his last nine rounds, firing a 71 yesterday to virtually clinch his sixth straight boys 9-10 years title even as new challengers emerged in the other divisions of the Samsung Jungolf Tour at the Sherwood Hills Golf Club course.

Superal’s 71 and a 36-hole total of 140 sent him scampering away by 23 strokes from his nearest rival, Christian Ricohermoso, as the unstopabble ace from Las Piñas made the Class D battle into another walk in the park.

While Dottie Ardina (girls Class D) and Jik Jik Abdon (boys Class C) built hefty leads, the favorites in the other divisions faced serious challenges to their title bids.

IG Gutierrez matched par 72 to emerge the new leader in Class B with a 148 total. Allan Guy was just two strokes off at 150, Gino Bunyi was five down at 153 while Miko Alejandro soared to an 82 and fell six shots behind.

In boys Class E, AR Ramos upstaged Bino dela Paz by two with his 81 and was just three down going to the last round. Dela Paz had an 83 for 168, allowing Ramos to close in at 171.

Justin Tambunting was the solo leader in Class A with a 75-153 getting him past Lawrence Macatangay by just one in boys Class A while Crystal Faith Superal’s was only four up on Debbie de Villa in girls Class C following a 77. Kristina Potenciano was still six up on Sun Mi Huang in girls Class E despite a 91-182.

Ardina’s 79-157 sent her too far ahead of Katya dela Cruz (93-188) while Abdon (76-154) had his grip of the title all secure as the next player in the standings, Carlos Tinio III, was at 88-170.
