Bayno gets GAB, BI papers; Pals vs Hotdogs

The impasse between Talk N Text and Basketball Coaches Association of the Philippines on the Bill Bayno case may escalate into a full-blown legal war with the PLDT management pressing its bid to have the American mentor handling the team.

Talk N Text officials have secured a Bureau of Immigration working permit and Games and Amusements Board license for Bayno. At presstime, they’re awaiting a decision from Department of Labor and Employment to grant the foreign coach an alien employment permit so he can sit on the Talk N Text bench in its game against Purefoods tonight in the Samsung PBA Governors Cup.

If they fail to get the DOLE paper, Talk N Text team manager Frankie Lim said they will tap Aric del Rosario as acting head coach.

If Bayno is able to present these documents, PBA commissioner Jun Bernardino said they can’t stop the former University of Nevada at Las Vegas (UNLV) coach from calling the shots for the Phone Pals starting in their game versus the Hotdogs at 4 p.m. today at the Araneta Coliseum.

The other game pits Coca Cola and Shell at 6 p.m.

But BCAP president Chito Narvasa said they will seek a court order once they find Bayno coaching Talk N Text.

Narvasa said they will cite a Supreme Court decision back in 1991 and a DOLE ruling in 1998 in contesting the appointment of Bayno as Talk N Text coach.

Showing unity in the rank, BCAP directors Yeng Guiao, Alfrancis Chua, Norman Black and Perry Ronquillo joined Narvasa as they reiterated their opposition to Bayno coaching Talk N Text while appearing at the SCOOP sa Kamayan session yesterday.

They suggested that Talk N Text could follow the "Ron Jacobs program" at San Miguel and they will not pursue the case. Nelson Beltran
