"No one ever gets tired of losing," said Marave shortly after the victory. He first won the Karter of the Year plum in 1994 and followed it up the following year by clinching both the National and the Super Kart Series titles.
On Friday, the 36-year-old Marave will receive a citation from the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) during its annual Awards Night at the Holiday Inn Hotel. He received the same citation from the PSA in 1995.
Marave, however, is taking a leave of absence from karting this year to concentrate on his Formula 3 campaign under the Shell Racing Team. The 2002 Asian Formula 3 series will consist of seven legs, including those in China, Malaysia, Taiwan, Korea and the Philippines.
Marave shared his recent success with his sponsors, saying: "Without the support that I got from Demvels Enterprises and Shell, I wouldnt have been the champion. Id like to express my heartfelt thanks to Shell, Demvels, my family and my supporters."
