Direk Joey, ayaw patawag ng ‘selya’

Ipinagkaloob ng Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) ang pinakamataas na karangalan sa mga natatanging Pilipinong artista, iskolar ng pelikula, at advocates ng film archiving and restoration, sa ginanap na second annual Parangal ng Sining noong April 19, 2024 at Seda Vertis North.

Nagtipun-tipon sa Parangal ng Sining ang ilan sa mga pinaka-maimpluwensyang tao at stakeholder sa local film industry to celebrate Philippine cinema at alalahanin ang mahalagang papel sa pagpapanatili ng kasaysayan ng kultura ng bansa.

“The past is important in navigating the future,” pahayag ni FDCP Chairperson Jose Javier Reyes during his opening remarks.

“Recognizing the essential role of film in preserving Filipino culture, the FDCP conferred its highest honor to scholars of the arts, film archivists and preservationists, mentors who shaped generations of Filipino writers and filmmakers, and artists who embodied the essence of Philippine cinema at this year’s “Parangal ng Sining,” pagpapatuloy niya.

At kabilang sa honorees ng Lifetime Achievement Award sina Boots Anson-Rodrigo; Dr. Nicanor Tiongson; Lifetime Achievement Award honoree Dr. Clodualdo “Doy” del Mundo, Jr.

Pinarangalan din si Armando “Bing” Lao ng Lifetime Achievement Award.

Rose Roque receives the Lifetime Achievement Award for SOFIA - The Society of Filipino Archivists for Film.

Tumanggap din ng pagkilala ang ABS-CBN Film Restoration na kinatawan nina Ms. Charo Santos-Concio and Leo Katigbak.

Si Butch Francisco naman ng Lifetime Achievement Award for Gloria Romero.

Si Sherbie Co, representative ng namayapang si Teddy Co, ang tumanggap ng Posthumous Award for Teddy Co, na isang mahusay na curator and archivist.

Huling pinarangalan si Jaclyn Jose na tinanggap ng anak niyang si Andi Eigenmann - Honorary Distinction.

Bituin Escalante performs Maalaala Mo Kaya in remembrance of late industry pillars at Parangal ng Sining.

Sa Memoriam, binigyang-pugay ng Parangal ng Sining ang mga yumaong Filipino artists, filmmakers, at cultural workers na gumawa ng makabuluhang kontribusyon sa Philippine arts at popular culture.

Dito rin sinabi ni FDCP Chair Jose Javier na mas gusto niyang tawagin siyang Direk Joey kesa Chairman o chair o selya na may kasamang biro.
