ILOILO CITY , Philippines — Five nursing schools in Western Visayas were warned anew for their low rating in the December 2010 nursing board examination.
Commission on Higher Education-Region 6 director Virginia Resurreccion said these schools got a rating below the national passing percentage of 35.25.
"It's the CHED central office which will take appropriate action … based on our evaluation of the performance of these five," she said, adding that they could lose their "recognized status" after posting below average performances over the last six nursing board exams.
There are 19 nursing schools in Region 6, and Resurreccion said that, generally, they performed well in the recent board exams, two of which--West Visayas State University (14 examinees) and St. Paul University Iloilo (124 examinees)---posted a 100 percent passing percentage.
The region also produced six topnotchers in the recent nursing board exam. At 6th place was Yugie Caroline Murillo Demegillo with a passing percentage of 86.00. Her school, the Iloilo Doctors' College, had a passing percentage of 45.92 after 416 of its 906 examinees passed.
At 7th place was Karl Marie Sta. Ana Tuvilla of the University Of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (85.80 percent); 8th placers were Karl Gabriel Alferi Bonifacio, Colegio De San Agustin-Bacolod City and Vincent Jubelag Sumergido West Visayas State University-La Paz (85.60 percent); and 9th placers were Rizyl Jem Franco Japitana and Nicole Anne Albaladejo Sales Diaz, both of Colegio De San Agustin-Bacolod City ( 85.40 percent).
