Cebu Governor Garcia sinuspinde ng Ombudsman

MANILA, Philippines — Ilang linggo bago ang eleksyon, sinuspinde ng Office of the Ombudsman si Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia ng anim na buwan dahil sa umano’y grave abuse of authority, gross misconduct, serious dishonesty at gross negligence.

Ang suspension ay may kinalaman sa pag-iisyu ng tanggapan ni Garcia ng permit sa isang construction company sa kabila na wala itong kaukulang environmental clearance.

Ayon sa Ombudsman, isinilbi kay Garcia ang suspension order nitong Lunes, Abril 28, 2025.

Sa reklamo na inihain ni Moises Garcia Deiparine, nag-isyu umano si Gov. Garcia ng Special Permit No. 2024-091 sa Shalom Construction Inc. na may petsang Mayo 14, 2024 na walang Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) o Certificate of Non-Coverage (CNC) mula sa Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) at wala ring konsultasyon sa mga kinauukulang ahensya ng pamahalaan.

“This Order is immediately executory,the ru­ling emphasized, citing Section 27 (1) of the Ombudsman Act. Any motion, appeal, or petition seeking relief shall not interrupt the implementation of this Order, unless otherwise ordered by this Office or any court of competent jurisdiction,” saad ng Ombudsman.

Sa nasabing kaso ay tinukoy ang paglabag sa Republic Act No. 6713 o ang Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees. Nilagdaan naman ang suspension order ni Overall Deputy Ombudsman Samuel Martires.

Tumatakbo si Garcia para sa kaniyang ikatlong termino bilang­ go­bernador ng Cebu.

Isa ang Cebu sa mga lalawigan na may pinaka­maraming botante na umaabot sa 3.4 milyon.

Samantala, inihayag ni Garcia na iaapela nila ang suspension order.
