MANILA, Philippines — Mabibili na rin sa mga Kadiwa Center ang P20 kada kilo na bigas simula sa Biyernes, Mayo 2.

Ayon kay Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel, magbebenta ang DA ng de-kalidad na NFA rice sa halagang P20 kada kilo sa mga Kadiwa stores.

Bukas lamang ito para sa vulnerable ­sector tulad ng indigents, senior citizens, solo ­parents, at persons with disabilities kung saan ang bawat benepisyaryo ay maaaring makabili ng hanggang 30 kilo ng bigas kada buwan.

Maaari naming ­buksan ang bentahan sa lahat ng residente sa 10 lokal na pamahalaan na nakibahagi rin sa inis­yatiba ng Visayas governors tulad ng San Juan sa Metro Manila, San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, Camarines Sur, at Mati City sa Davao Oriental.

“The new rice option aligns with the ‘Bente Bigas Mo’ pilot program in the Visayas and in the 10 local government units (LGUs) that have joined the initiative, where NFA (National Food Authority) rice is sold at P33 per kilo due to the national food security emergency,” pahayag ni Laurel.

“With world market prices now averaging just USD 300 per metric ton—down from a high of over USD 700—and with NFA buffer stocks at their strongest in years, we felt the conditions were finally right to launch,” dagdag ng kalihim.

Base sa monitoring ng DA, nasa P39.99 hanggang P58.17 ang bentahan ng kada kilo ng bigas sa Metro Manila.
