Negros schools get 17 new buildings for kindergartens

BACOLOD CITY , Philippines  â€“ Pinky Aquino-Abelleda, President Aquino’s sister, led the turnorver of 17 two-classroom kindergarten buildings to various schools in Negros island.

The classrooms were turned over by the Aklat, Gabay, Aruga tungo sa Pag-angat at Pag-asa (AGGAP) Foundation Inc., chaired by Abellada, and the Negrense Volunteers for Change (NVC) Foundation Inc. at rites held in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.

The 17 classrooms were donated by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Coca-Cola Foundation and Hanston Commercial and Industrial Corp.

In Negros Occidental, the beneficiaries of the ADB-donated schools are M.J. Escalante Elem. School in Cadiz City, Macario Natividad Elem. School in Hinigaran, Molocaboc Integrated School in Sagay City, Doña Agustina Barrera Elem. School in E.B. Magalona, Paalaalang Paaralan ng Alejandro Ombion in Cauayan, Guinpanaan Elem. School in Moises Padilla, Bocana Elem. School in Ilog, and Daan Banua Elem. School in Kabankalan City.

Sta. Cruz Elem. Shool in Murcia and Puria L. Mora Elem. School in Talisay City, Negros Occidental both received classrooms from Coca- Cola Foundation, while La Castellana Elem. School was thebeneficiary of Hanston Commercial and Industrial.

In Negros Oriental, the ADB-sponsored schools are Cabcaban Elem. School in Bindoy town, Ayungon Central School in Ayungon town, Dauin Central School in Dauin town, La Libertad Central Elem. School in La Libertad town, Macario Española Memorial School in Canlaon City, and Jimalalud Central Elem. School in Jimalalud town.

“One of the first programs of the Aquino administration was universalizing kindergarten,” Education Secretary Armin Luistro said.

Luistro said the AGAPP foundation has helped DepEd in wiping out the classroom backlog in the country.

Founded in 2010, AGAPP is a non-profit organization engaged in the construction of pre-schools in depressed and disadvantaged areas designated by the DepEd.
