CEBU, Philippines — The opening of School Year 2026–2027 yesterday, June 8, proceeded smoothly across Cebu City and Cebu Province, with authorities reporting zero crime incidents during the first day of classes.

In Cebu City, the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) deployed more than 100 personnel to schools, major roads, pedestrian crossings, and transport terminals as part of heightened security measures under Balik Eskwela 2026.

According to CCPO, the deployment aimed to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and school personnel while maintaining order and traffic flow during the school opening.

The security operation was carried out in coordination with the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO), barangay officials, traffic enforcers, and volunteers who helped manage congestion and ensure the smooth movement of commuters and students.

Authorities maintained a visible presence in key school zones throughout the day, with assistance desks set up in strategic areas to respond to public concerns and provide immediate support.

In Cebu Province, the Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO) also reported zero crime incidents during the opening of classes, crediting strong coordination among police units, local government units, schools, barangay officials, and community partners.

CPPO deployed personnel in schools, transport terminals, major highways, and convergence areas, supported by police assistance desks to ensure immediate response to public needs.

CPPO Director PCOL Abubakar Udang Mangelen Jr. said the peaceful opening was the result of thorough preparation and strong community cooperation.

Police Regional Office (PRO)-7 Director PBGEN Arnold Evangelista Abad commended the dedication of police personnel and partner agencies for ensuring the safety of learners across Central Visayas.

Governor Pamela Baricuatro also lauded the coordinated efforts of government agencies, schools, and volunteers, saying the peaceful and orderly opening of classes reflects the strength of collaboration in protecting students and ensuring a safe learning environment.

Police said security operations will continue throughout the school year through sustained visibility patrols, traffic management, and close coordination with schools and local government units. — (FREEMAN)
