Capital1 too hot for Nxled
MANILA, Philippines — Capital1 Solar needed a massive second-set fightback to snare a 21-25, 25-21, 25-15, 25-18 victory over Nxled yesterday for its first win in the PVL All-Filipino Conference at the PhilSports Arena.
Trailing by a set and 20-15 in the second frame, the Solar Spikers unleashed a 10-1 onslaught to steal the set and knot the match at 1-1.
It was all the Milka and Mandy Romero-owned franchise needed to turn things around and seal its first triumph after starting the conference with three straight defeats.
“Second set ang laki ng lamang. Swerte nakabalik kami,” said Capital1 coach Roger Gorayeb.
Heather Guino-o was at the center of the storm as she went on a 21-point rampage in helping propel Capital1 to a much-needed win.
She was quick to thank the multi-titled Gorayeb for the unbending faith the latter showed on the former.
“Ayoko sayangin binigay na chance ni coach,” said the power-hitting Guino-o referring to Gorayeb, who knew all along that Guino-o would eventually rise to the occasion.
“Lagi ko sinasabihan ‘yan na ‘eto na chance mo, huwag mo na sayangin, huwag ka na magdalawang isip kung kaya o hindi,’” he said.
Rookie spiker Leila Cruz also came through with 17 hits while battle-scarred Patty Orendain turned back the time and chipped in 10 points.
Roma Doromal presided over Capital1’s floor defense with 10 digs.
