Reader's Views: Lacson's "secret" witness

We live in a country where the infrastructure projects are known to be an excellent source of kickbacks. Many have already gone to jail because of that, after they have been proven guilty. I believe that the graft fighters must not relent in their efforts to rid our country of these corrupt officials as long as it is proven true that they really are the culprits.

Recently, the news stories have quoted Senator Panfilo Lacson, who was also quoting an unnamed source that a certain contractor is the link to First Gentleman Miguel Arroyo, who the senator says is the man behind the corruption.

Up to now, Lacson hasn't named the witness, who is said to come from a foreign construction firm, which makes me doubt the truth of his alleged exposé.

Lacson has been known to look for whatever mud he can throw to the administration of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. If he can hit the president, he turns his sights on the First Gentleman like a little boy bullying his classmates.

If there is really a witness, then he or she should come out to tell the truth and present evidence for such. If no evidence can be presented, I know that we cannot also just put somebody to jail on account of plain rumor.

So, if Lacson's alleged exposé is a mere rumor, then one thing is really exposed here - the senator's love for publicity that would not really be for the public's good, but for his own political survival.
