Parents seek NBI help for son’s death during circumcision

MANILA, Philippines — The parents of an 11-year-old boy who died while being circumcised at a clinic in Mulanay, Quezon in April sought the help of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in seeking justice for their son’s death.
Parents Marlon and Jenny told NBI investigators that their son had seizures after he was administered the second dose of anesthesia and died inside the clinic.
“His death certificate indicated he succumbed from ‘subarachnoid hemorrhage as a result of ruptured intracerebral vessels… due to lidocaine administration,’ which means pressure inside his brain increased and caused a hemorrhage,” said Dr. Al Anthony Chua, chief of the NBI medico-legal division.
NBI Director Jaime Santiago said the bureau would have the doctor subpoenaed.
“We will investigate this closely and punish those who need to be punished,” Santiago said.
The boy’s parents said they were motivated to seek the NBI’s help following a similar case in Tondo, Manila.
