Electrical fault limits LRT-1 trips

MANILA, Philippines — Passengers of the Light Rail Transit Line were forced to find alternative modes of transport yesterday after LRT-1 trips were cut short due to an electrical glitch.
The Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC), LRT-1’s private operator, implemented limited service at 8:54 a.m. from Fernando Poe Jr. to Gil Puyat stations only.
Full train service resumed at 5:38 p.m., the LRMC said, with all train sets running from Fernando Poe Jr. to Dr. Santos stations.
The LRMC said the nine-hour halt was caused by an “electrical fault between Redemptorist-Aseana and Baclaran stations.”
LRMC engineers conducted a thorough assessment of catenary facilities to resolve the glitch.
Commuters traveling southbound from Gil Puyat resorted to jeepneys to reach their destinations, resulting in traffic jams in some parts of Taft Avenue.
“We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this unforeseen incident,” the LRMC said.
