Quake jolts Batangas town

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck off the coast of Calatagan in Batangas shortly after midnight yesterday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
Phivolcs said the temblor occurred at 12:04 a.m. and its epicenter was located 14 kilometers south-southwest of Calatagan.
Instrumental Intensity 2 was recorded in Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro and Calapan City in Oriental Mindoro.
Instrumental Intensity 1 was logged in Calatagan, Batangas.
The quake, which was tectonic in origin, was not expected to generate aftershocks or cause damage to property.
