BACOLOD CITY , Philippines — Communities around Kanlaon on Negros Island have yet to see the worst eruption of the volcano, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

Phivolcs director Teresito Bacolcol said that Kanlaon’s moderate explosive eruption on May 13 was not yet the worst.

Bacolcol likened the moderate explosive eruption to a similar volcanic event that occurred on April 8, which lasted 56 minutes.

The moderate explosive eruption on May 13 lasted only five minutes.

Bacolcol said Kanlaon remains under Alert Level 3, although it is possible that the alert would be raised to Level 4 once a stronger eruption occurs.
