MANILA, Philippines — Parañaque voters reinstated District 1 Rep. Edwin Olivarez as mayor, but booted out District 2 Rep. Gus Tambunting from his position.

Edwin will swap posts with his brother Eric Olivarez, who was elected congressman of District 1.

Edwin amassed over 140,000 votes, with Drew Uy finishing a distant second with about 60,000 votes.

The race turned into a clan fight after Eric’s wife, Aileen, competed against Edwin.

Election results showed Aileen received only 5,000 votes.

The Olivarezes opted to switch positions after a “series of consultations with the family and various sectors in Parañaque.”

Edwin served as mayor from 2013 to 2022, winning his first term after defeating the Bernabe clan.

The returning mayor chaired the Metro Manila Council during the COVID pandemic.

Tambunting, who chairs the House legislative franchise committee, was defeated by Bicol Saro party-list Rep. Brian Yamsuan by over 9,000 votes.

Yamsuan served as media officer of the late senator Edgardo Angara in 1996.
