Metro Manila crimes down 26%

MANILA, Philippines — Metro Manila police posted a 26-percent drop in index crimes in the first four months of 2025.
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) recorded 1,627 index crimes from Jan. 1 to May 5, down from 2,201 during the same period in 2024.
Out of the eight listed index crimes, only six exhibited a “sustained drop.”
Theft cases decreased by 31 percent.
Cases of rape, physical injuries and homicide went down by 29 percent apiece.
Murder and robbery cases dropped by 27 percent and 19 percent, respectively.
The two other index crimes are car theft and motorcycle theft.
Crime solution efficiency, based on the NCRPO data, stood at 71 percent, up by two percentage points from 2024, meaning seven out of 10 crimes were considered solved.
