11,000 jobs available at Quezon Labor Day event
MANILA, Philippines — Up to 11,000 employment opportunities will be available during the Labor Day job fair organized by the Quezon City government today.
According to the local government, 100 private companies and government agencies from various industries will participate in the job fair.
It will be held at the QC M.I.C.E. Center at the city hall complex from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“We invite all jobseekers, especially our QCitizens, to take part in this opportunity to jumpstart their careers,” Mayor Joy Belmonte said in a statement.
“Through this job fair, we are delivering on our commitment to create a city where every resident has access to decent work. In Quezon City, we believe that employment is not just a livelihood – it is empowerment, dignity and a pathway to a better future,” she added.
A one-stop shop will be set up to support job applicants in completing their pre-employment requirements.
These include membership registration and ID issuances for SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG and Philippine Statistics Authority.
A QCitizen ID booth will also be established for residents who need to apply for or receive their QCID cards.
Among the companies participating in the job fair are National Bookstore, Andok’s, Asia Brewery Inc., Hotel SOGO, Max’s Kitchen Inc., JAC Liner Company, Robinsons Supermarket, Savemore Market, Classic Savory, SM Supermarket and Hypermarket, Solaire Resort North, UnionBank and Zest-O Corp.
Labor Day protests
Meanwhile, around 10,000 rallyists are expected to join protests in Manila today.
Led by the Kilusang Mayong Uno (KMU), militant groups will converge at the Liwasang Bonifacio in front of the Manila Central Post Office at 8 a.m.
The KMU and its allied organizations are calling for an across-the-board P1,200 legislated wage hike for workers.
As the country marks Labor Day today, Senate President Francis Escudero lauded workers for their contribution to the economy.
Employees who report for work today are entitled to receive double their regular daily pay, according to the Department of Labor and Employment. - Mayen Jaymalin
