MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) yesterday condemned the killing of Ang Bumbero ng Pilipinas party-list nominee Leninsky Bacud.
Bacud, a former barangay chairman, was gunned down by motorcycle-riding assailants in Sampaloc, Manila on Monday.
“Violence should not be used to gain the sympathy or attention of voters,” Comelec Chairman George Garcia said.
Garcia noted that there is a dispute involving members of the party-list representing firemen.
Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna also condemned the assassination of Bacud, saying “the city government stands with those who served the people. We will bring the perpetrators to justice.”
