2 strong quakes jolt Cagayan

MANILA, Philippines — Two strong earthquakes jolted Cagayan yesterday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
Phivolcs said a magnitude 5.8 earthquake rocked Cagayan at 1:18 a.m. yesterday. Its epicenter was located 25 kilometers north of Dalupiri Island in Calayan, Cagayan.
Instrumental intensity 4 was recorded in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, and intensity 3 in Aparri and Claveria, Cagayan.
Instrumental intensity 2 was recorded in Gonzaga in Penablanca, Cagayan and in Solsona, Ilocos Norte.
Phivolcs said a magnitude 5.5 earthquake hit Cagayan earlier in the day, or at 12:54 a.m., with the epicenter traced 13 km north of Dalupiri Island.
Phivolcs said intensity 5 was felt on Calayan Island, Cagayan, and intensity 3 in Laoag City as well as the towns of Pagudpud, Pasuquin, Bacarra and San Nicolas, all in Ilocos Norte.
The agency also recorded instrumental intensity 2 in Claveria and Aparri in Cagayan and instrumental intensity 1 in Gonzaga, Cagayan and Batac, Ilocos Norte.
The state agency does not expect damage but warned of possible aftershocks.
