2 suspects in Chinese woman’s kidnap held

MANILA, Philippines — Police on Tuesday arrested two suspects, including a Taiwanese, for allegedly kidnapping a Chinese woman in Manila.
The Taiwanese suspect known only as Rex, 27, and his cohort named Reynald, 24, were nabbed in separate operations in Parañaque and Pasay.
The suspects allegedly kidnapped a Chinese woman identified only as Zhou, 41, who was last seen leaving her house in Malate, Manila on April 17.
Police said the suspects demanded P500,000 from the victim.
After two of Zhou’s confidants transferred the money to a crypto account, the victim was abandoned near a mall in Pasay on Sunday.
Police nabbed Rex inside a subdivision in Las Piñas. Reynald was collared in Pasay.
Both suspects are in the custody of the Manila police.
The Philippine National Police has formed the Joint Anti-Kidnapping Action Committee to neutralize kidnappings.
The committee was created amid the kidnappings of Filipino-Chinese steel magnate Anson Que and his driver as well as a 14-year-old Chinese student whose finger was cut off by the kidnappers.
