Ex-VP Leni’s X account hacked

MANILA, Philippines — Former vice president Leni Robredo confirmed yesterday that her X (formerly Twitter) account had been hacked.
In a Facebook post, Robredo said, “My X account was hacked. Please ignore all posts while I am trying to regain control of the account.”
The hack led to several posts related to cryptocurrency, including one that read, “As a human rights lawyer and a politician, I’ve spent my career advocating for fairness and integrity, and I believe those principles should extend to crypto.”
The post about cryptocurrency has since been deleted, but it was unclear whether the former vice president had regained control of her account as of yesterday afternoon.
Crypto-related hacking incidents have previously been reported on X.
In September last year, multiple accounts – including those of local media organizations like The Philippine STAR – were simultaneously compromised and used to post about a new cryptocurrency token.
Similarly, last month, actress Angel Locsin also broke her social media silence to announce that she had recovered her X account after it was compromised and used to share several crypto-related contents.
In light of these incidents, the public is urged to take extra precautions to protect their social media accounts, such as enabling two-factor authentication and being cautious of suspicious activity or links.
