285 gun ban violators nabbed in Metro Manila

MANILA, Philippines — The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has nabbed nearly 300 people for violating the six-week-old gun ban imposed for the upcoming midterm elections.
Between Jan. 12 and Feb. 17, Metro Manila police arrested 285 suspects for violating the election gun ban.
The NCRPO confiscated 293 firearms in checkpoints set up around the region.
“Despite the heightened activity during the election season, the NCRPO has reported no election-related incidents during this period, emphasizing the effectiveness of its preventive and security measures,” the Metro Manila police said in a statement.
The Omnibus Election Code prohibits any person from carrying a firearm outside one’s residence during the election period, except for top government officials and authorized personnel.
The election gun ban will last until June 11.
