Olivarez running unopposed

MANILA, Philippines — Running unopposed for Congress in the May midterm elections, Parañaque Mayor Eric Olivarez on Wednesday bade farewell to his constituents.
“As my term comes to a close on June 30, I stand before you with a full heart, knowing that we have fulfilled our mission of serving Parañaque with integrity, excellence and love for our people,” Olivarez said in his third state of the city address.
“But make no mistake, this is not the end. If we can overcome the hardest of times, imagine what we can achieve in the years ahead. This is only the beginning of even greater things to come,” he added.
The state of the city address took place during the celebration of Parañaque’s 27th cityhood anniversary.
Olivarez is vying for the congressional seat of Parañaque’s first district.
Seven candidates are hoping to succeed him, including his brother Edwin who served as mayor from 2013 to 2022.
Parañaque ranked sixth wealthiest city in the Philippines in 2023, from 10th in 2022, based on the Commission on Audit’s annual financial report published in December 2024.
The city accumulated over P35 billion in assets.
