Ed Amoroso - The Philippine Star

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — Four US Navy personnel, including the pilot and co-pilot, cheated death after making an emergency landing on Polilio Island in Quezon province on Saturday.

According to reports, US Navy aircraft pilot Cooper Grever and co-pilot Madeline Mattingly as well as crewmembers Galluih Small and Joseph Schul were brought to a clinic for medical examinations following the emergency landing.

The four were discharged after treatment and are said to be staying in a hotel.

Police said another US Navy aircraft was dispatched from Subic airport to rescue the four military personnel.

Mechanics were also sent to check on the helicopter’s engine.

Grever reportedly decided to make an emergency landing after the helicopter experienced engine trouble while in the vicinity of Balesin Island, also in Quezon province, on Saturday afternoon.

Police said no one was reported injured in the emergency landing.

It said that the two US Navy aircraft remained in Polilio as of yesterday.
