MANILA, Philippines — Heavy rains and flooding spawned by a shear line have submerged seven barangays in Puerto Princesa City in Palawan since Sunday, according to the Philippine Coast Guard.

The PCG said its personnel rescued 108 families and 30 other people during a two-day operation in the villages of San Manuel, San Pedro, Bancao-Bancao, San Jose, Sicsican, Irawan and Wescom Road in Puerto Princesa.

The flood victims are in good physical condition and are staying in evacuation centers in their respective barangays.

The PCG deployed 94 personnel divided into four teams to flood-stricken villages.

The agency said it would continue conducting rescue operations and provide immediate assistance to affected families and villagers.

The PCG-District Eastern Visayas led by Commodore Romeo Pulido Jr. also deployed teams to assist people trapped in floodwaters.

Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has released P550,000 to assist people displaced by flooding in Mimaropa.

Irene Dumlao, spokesperson for the DSWD, said family food packs were sent to people staying in different evacuation centers.

“(DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian directed the disaster response management group to act quickly and coordinate with concerned local government units for immediate assistance to flood victims,” Dumlao said.
