6 fake PWD ID makers nabbed

MANILA, Philippines — Six manufacturers of fake identification cards for persons with disabilities (PWDs) were apprehended in Manila on Wednesday.
Erdie Garcia Macaspac, 49; Marites Goco Esedera, 34, and Michelle Ronquillo Janaban, 31, were arrested along Quezon Boulevard in Barangay 310, Sta. Cruz.
Another police operation led to the arrest of three more suspects in Quiapo. They were identified only as Aileen, Jonathan and John.
Metro Manila police director Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin said the suspects were engaged in the production and sale of bogus PWD cards.
Aberin said the arrests were made after receiving intelligence reports about the proliferation of fake PWD cards, which are used to exploit businesses by getting a 20-percent discount on products and services.
Prices of the fake IDs ranged between P200 and P500, Manila police intelligence chief Lt. Col. John Guiagui told The STAR.
The suspects’ clients provided them with copies of PWD IDs issued by local government units, allowing them to forge the cards, he said.
