MANILA, Philippines — The crime volume in Quezon City dropped by at least 14 percent, police reported yesterday.

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said 602 focus crimes were recorded from Oct. 1, 2024 to Feb. 1, 2025.

The figure is lower by 14.12 percent compared to the 701 crimes registered during the same period in the previous year.

The focus crimes are murder, homicide, physical injury, robbery, theft, vehicle theft, motorcycle theft and rape.

QCPD director Col. Melecio Buslig Jr. said physical injury cases decreased by 52.50 percent followed by rape (36.21 percent), murder (29.41 percent), robbery (17.53 percent) and theft (9.49 percent).

Buslig attributed the decrease in crimes to intensified law enforcement operations.

According to Buslig, up to 1,309 fugitives have been arrested in Quezon City since October last year.

Of the number, 889 were tracked down using the e-warrant system.

Buslig lauded Mayor Joy Belmonte for the local government’s collaboration with the QCPD for the strategic deployment of police in high-crime areas in the city.
