MANILA, Philippines — The southwest monsoon will bring rains over parts of Luzon and Western Visayas today, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, is affecting the western sections of Luzon and the Visayas.

Scattered rains are forecast over Metro Manila, Ilocos, Cordillera Administrative Region, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Calabarzon, Mimaropa and Western Visayas.

Meanwhile, localized thunderstorms may bring isolated rains over the rest of the country.

PAGASA warned the public of flash floods during moderate to heavy rainfall.

The state weather bureau declared the start of the rainy season late last month as Typhoon Aghon, the first tropical cyclone to enter the country, left.

It said the prevalence of the southwest monsoon also signified the onset of the wet season.

Despite a reprieve from high temperatures, around 30 areas in the country may still experience dangerous heat index today.

Temperatures will range between 42 to 46 degrees Celsius.

PAGASA warned the public of heat cramps and heat exhaustion as well as heat stroke with prolonged exposure.
