MANILA, Philippines — Archbishop-elect Victor Bendico will be installed as the fourth archbishop of Capiz on May 3.

Prior to his new assignment, the 63-year-old Bendico served as bishop of the Diocese of Baguio, according to the CBCPNews, the official news service provider of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).

The seat of the archbishop of Capiz has been vacant for almost two years after Cardinal Jose Advincula was named archbishop of Manila in June 2021.

During the vacancy, the archdiocese was governed by its administrator Monsignor Cyril Villareal.

Pope Francis appointed Bendico archbishop of Capiz on March 3.

Bendico is currently chairman of the CBCP-Episcopal Commission on Liturgy. He was born in Roxas City on Jan. 22, 1960 and ordained as priest on April 14, 1984.

Bendico finished philosophical and theological studies at the University of Santo Tomas Central Seminary in Manila.

He  has a doctorate in Sacred Liturgy from the Pontifical Institute of St. Anselm in Rome.

In October 2016, Pope Francis appointed Bendico bishop of Baguio. He was ordained to the episcopate on Jan. 10, 2017.
