Lawmaker spearheads MOU vs gender-based violence
MANILA, Philippines — A party-list group headed by the lawmaker-wife of Speaker Martin Romualdez has facilitated a tripartite memorandum of understanding (MOU) to help victims of gender-based violence, particularly employees of the House of Representatives and their family members.
“I am honored to be part of this MOU signing by the House of Representatives, Quezon City local government and the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP),” Tingog party-list Rep. Yedda Marie Romualdez said.
The agreement aims to provide a comprehensive and holistic support for House employees who are victims or survivors of violence, Romualdez said.
The QC government’s Protection Center will provide shelter while members of the IBP will give legal and psychological help to victims of abuse and violence.
Romualdez, who spoke on behalf of the Speaker, lauded the signing of the agreement by the parties.
“The Speaker and I express our full support for this undertaking. It is an honor be a member of an institution that values the welfare of its employees when they need it the most,” she said.
She added they hope to provide timely intervention for House employees and their children who are suffering from violence and abuse.
