MANILA, Philippines — Without the usual fanfare, Makati observed its 351st Foundation Day last Tuesday, with the city government applauding frontliners facing the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the theme “Hawak Kamay,” the city government hosted a drone show and presented a video message at the University of Makati football field on Tuesday night. The event was broadcast on its Facebook page.

Mayor Abby Binay thanked the frontliners for being committed to work despite hardships, even risking their lives just to continue their service.

“This year’s Foundation Day theme symbolizes our resilience in the face of adversity. It aims to inspire courage and optimism among the people of Makati, giving them reassurance that we, their leaders, are determined to leave no one behind,” she said in her statement.

She also thanked the city residents for their cooperation in the city government’s efforts to contain COVID-19 and minimize its effects.

The city government has launched anti-COVID programs such as online and manual payment of cash assistance, deployment of jeepneys for hybrid learning and a vaccination program.
