MANILA, Philippines — A policeman seen in a viral video carrying a shotgun during a traffic altercation has been removed from his post and will be disarmed, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said yesterday.
M/Sgt. Wilson Aquino, assigned to the Quezon City Police District, was put on floating status by NCRPO director Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar.
Aquino was seen in the video alighting from a sport utility vehicle carrying a shotgun during a traffic altercation along Commonwealth Avenue on July 26.
Eleazar said Aquino, assigned with the Tactical Motorcycle Reaction Unit of the Talipapa police, is on leave until Aug. 20.
He ordered Aquino to report to the NCRPO and turn over his issued firearm and badge.
“We are here to serve and protect, not to intimidate or threaten our citizens. This will serve as a lesson for everybody and I am thankful that this abusive police officer was exposed,” Eleazar said in a statement.
Aquino faces a criminal charge of grave threats and an administrative charge of grave misconduct.
