MANILA, Philippines – Close to 800 farmers received land titles in a recent ceremony held in Negros Occidental, the Department of Agrarian Reform reported yesterday.
Aside from distributing certificates of land ownership award, DAR provided credit assistance and turned over farm machines to farmer-beneficiaries.
DAR regional director Stephen Leonidas said the credit assistance amounting P16 million would be made available to at least 547 farmers belonging to the seven recipient cooperatives such as the Haganay AR Cooperative, Hacienda Bongco Farmers Association, Unson-Gil Farms and Agricultural Corp., Aliwanay Agrarian Reform Cooperative, De Fuego I Farmers Association, Hacienda Caridad III FW Association and San Jose 2 FW Association. “The credit assistance aims to reduce poverty in agrarian reform areas,” Leonidas said.
The agency turned over 43 farm machines to 27 cooperatives to help them improve the sugarcane production.
