Magnitude 5 quake hits waters off Davao Occidental

MANILA, Philippines - A magnitude 5 earthquake was recorded east of Saranggani, Davao Occidental on Thursday afternoon, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The agency said the quake occurred at 1:24 p.m. and was tectonic in origin.

It had a depth of six kilometers and its epicenter was located at 141 kilometers southeast of Sarangani.

According to Phivolcs' initial data, the tremor had no reported intensities.

Damage and aftershocks are not also expected, Phivolcs said. - Louis Bacani
