DOJ resets probe on Corona tax evasion case
MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Justice's (DOJ) hearing on the P120.5-million tax evasion case against former Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona did not push through Tuesday and was reset to Friday.
The hearing was reset after Corona failed to attend because of flu.
Senior State Prosecutor Roseann Balauag said that the head of the panel of prosecutors handling the case, Corona's legal counsel Anacleto Diaz, asked for the resetting of the hearing to Friday, which was granted by the panel.
Balauag, however, said that the panel will submit the case for resolution even if Corona would also fail to attend the hearing.
The Bureau of Internal Revenue filed a P120.5-million tax evasion case against Corona for his alleged incorrect declaration in his Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net worth (SALN), the same reason he was impeached by the Senate impeachment court last May.
