MANILA, Philippines - The Court of Appeals (CA) has ordered the military to give protection to Filipino-American activist Melissa Roxas and her relatives in the country following her reported abduction and torture allegedly in the hands of military men in Tarlac last May.
In a 33-page decision, the CA’s former special 16th division favored Roxas’ petition for a writ of amparo, enjoining the military from distributing to the public any documents or records pertaining to her alleged ties with the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army.
However, the appellate court denied her request for an inspection of her supposed detention cell and for the return of her belongings. – Edu Punay
