Davao Norte gov unveils gender-responsive plan

TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte — The province of Davao del Norte today takes on its most festive mood in recent years, confident that a uniquely extensive socio-economic program launched by its government will be stepped up this year to benefit its citizenry, particularly the women.

In a day-long string of activities for the "grand opening" of the program, Davao del Norte Gov. Rodolfo del Rosario leads local government officials in presenting the Gender Responsive Provincial Comprehensive Development Plan (GRPCDP) 2000 to 2010, which will pursue projects in the province that put greater emphasis on the participation of and rewards for women in all efforts of development.

Along with the presentation, a symbolic archive of the GRPCDP will be unveiled by Del Rosario, to be assisted by Rep. Antonio Floirendo and Director Ermelita Valdeavilla of the National Commission on the Role of Filipino Women.

The plan specifically addresses women’s concerns for equality and progress in the areas of education, labor and employment, family and individual life, politics and public life, economic and industrial endeavors, and legal property rights under the sectoral lines of the provincial socio-economic system.

In general terms, the plan is aimed at improving quality of life of women and men, delivery of services and revenue generation, financial management and human resources, global competitiveness and sustainable development, and provision of adequate infrastructure utilities and facilities in the province.

Del Rosario said the program has the full support of the provincial folk. In fact, he said, the people have organized themselves into a province-wide association called Kapisanan ng Mamamayan Para sa Ikauunlad ng Davao del Norte or "Kami Davaonon."
