52-yr-old woman killed, 4 hurt in SLEX accident

A 52-year-old woman was killed while four others were injured after figuring in a vehicular accident early morning yesterday along the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX).

Senior Police Officer 3 Marlon Diaz of the Traffic Management Group-Bicutan said the victims were on board a passenger jeepney (DHH-690) traversing the northbound lane of SLEX around 5:15 a.m. when the right front wheel of the vehicle exploded causing it to turn on its side.

Delia Rodriguez, of Blk 48, Lot 35, Southville, Cabuyao, Laguna, who sustained serious head injuries, was dead on arrival at the South Superhighway Medical Center.

Rodriguez’s husband, Pepito, 57, was seriously injured while their son 30-year-old Edgar together with two other passengers – Fe Pacleb, 54, of No. 165 Park Road, Bangkal, Makati City and Maria Suarez, 48, also of Southville, Cabuyao, Laguna, sustained minor injuries in the incident. They were also treated in the same hospital.

Diaz said the driver identified as George Matildo was overspeeding which led to the accident near the Bicutan exit. He is now in the custody of the TMG-Bicutan office.

A case of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide with multiple physical injuries is now being readied against Matildo.  – Rhodina Villanueva
